Art Reproduction - Yes Quality Matters

Canvas used for Art Reproduction Matters

A photo of heavy grade duck cotton canvas used by GFM Painting will give your painting an excellent strong foundation.

The canvas is the foundation of the painting. It's important  that the canvas for your art replica or portrait has strength and stability since over time many factors can challenge your oil painting (for example  humidity, change in temperature, re-stretching) and a flimsy canvas just won't cut it. These poor quality canvases are also loosely woven and the fabric can easily distort when stretched, which in turn will ruin the painting. Nearly all of these Chinese art reproduction companies as well as the big American ones (80% of the Chinese art reproduction market ships solely to America) use flimsy nylon canvases. The reason being of course is that they're dirt cheap to buy so companies make a bigger profit.  They may be easy on the pocket but it's not so great for the painting.

Here at GFM Painting, we use a heavy grade duck cotton canvas because of its strength, stability and durability.  Heavy grade duck cotton canvases have a smooth, dense construction and are suitable for large oil paintings.  Our duck cotton canvases, which your paintings will be lovingly hand painted on will feel reassuringly heavy and  provide excellent support  for even thickly painted pieces of art, such as our van Gogh replicas. Even for larger paintings, due to the way the threads criss-cross each other in the canvas you'll find that they provide an excellent foundation for your painting.  Say no to poor cheapo quality canvases and give your painting a strong foundation.  In the long run you'll be very pleased you have!

How to tell if Art is a Reproduction?

art reproduction

Well, the obvious clue is that the art reproduction in question will not be signed. If you commission an art reproduction of a Degas for example, the artist painting your art reproduction is not allowed to sign the painting with Edgar Degas' signature.  That would make the art reproduction a forgery and highly illegal. Is a question, we're often asked by people.

Is Art Reproduction popular?

The Artist Palette

All of the oil paints our artists utilize come together on the artist palette. The artist palette is commonly constructed of very thin wood, designed to be held in the artist’s hand while resting on the arm of the artist. In addition to the wood palette, our artists may also use a flat tray that is conveniently located just below the canvas that is being painted. This tray serves a dual purpose as the palette for the oil paints and also a convenient surface to have all the artist brushes close at hand. The artist palette is the surface where all the oil paints are mixed together to achieve the desired colors needed by the artist to complete each masterpiece.

The Canvas

Our artists use canvas that is made from high quality, 100% cotton fabric. Cotton canvas is the preferred choice for our artists, because it is a very durable fabric for oil painting. The fine woven cotton canvas is coated with acid-free titanium gesso, which ensures long term life for our museum quality oil paintings. The 100% cotton canvas has both excellent fiber strength for stretching and is also woven to rigid specifications to meet the strict requirements of our master artists.

Our Artists at Work

The painting process involves many intricate steps our artists must complete in order to paint each oil painting. Our stringent quality control and high standards of excellence ensures that our artists strictly adhere to our philosophy that every oil painting must be painted with the utmost attention to detail, aesthetics, technique and style. We want you to buy with confidence, knowing that you have purchased the finest quality oil paintings, entirely hand-painted on canvas by our master artists!
